Two sides

Yesterday in Bucharest there were two marches: a 'normality' march and GayFest.
I have friends on both sides.
The question is:
Why should there be two sides?

Considering the Christian point of view, in the end everyone will be held accountable for their thoughts and deeds. What I'm trying to say is:
"Judge not, and you shall not be judged: condemn not, and you shall not be condemned: forgive, and you shall be forgiven."

I think we are all here for a purpose. We are ALL here, on this earth for a reason:
I dare say, a HIGHER reason.

So the question remains:
Why should there be two sides?
